MACI MORRIS - STUDENT MIDWIFE

Maci Morris - Midwife

Hi! My name is Maci Morris and I am a student midwife here at the Addice. It has been an honor to walk alongside these wonderful moms as they come into our care!

Q: When was the moment you knew you wanted to be a midwife:

I knew I wanted to be a midwife at 15 years old! I always grew up as the oldest child of 7 kids and from as long as I can remember I have been very interested in health, wellness, and the human body and how it functions. The moment that sealed the decision was being at my mother’s home birth with my last little brother. Throughout her whole pregnancy, she shared so many big and small details with me involving how life-changing her care had been with a midwife in this pregnancy. After her home birth, hearing her say “I would do this a million times again”, made me confident that this was the direction I wanted to go. I went on to pursue midwifery studies right after high school and haven’t looked back!

Q: Why did you become a midwife?:

I became a midwife because pregnancy is a normal, physiological process that should be treated as such. Women deserve to be listened to and to receive compassionate and individualized care, instead of a “one size fits all” narrative. The birthing space is so sacred and I believe it should be an environment full of peace and safety for each family involved.

Q: What is a birthing moment you will never forget?

A moment I will never forget would be when the baby came out fully en caul at the birth center with lots of amniotic fluid inside of the sac! The mother had a photographer to capture the moment and they are still photos I look back on and am amazed by! Funny enough, her second child was born the same way!

Q: What is something you will never get tired of?

I will never get tired of the emotions that flood the room the moment after a mother has given birth. The mother is often filled with relief, joy, shock, empowerment, and so much love. It makes it all worth it! She finally did it!

Q: What is your favorite thing about being a midwife?

My favorite part is the close relationships that are formed with the clients through their journey at the Addice. It is an honor watching mothers and families make informed and educated decisions about their body and their babies and seeing them walk confidently in that.
